While my Mustang has gotten the driver side rear wheel bearing replaced (called it) under warranty, it’s staying at the dealer until the hood corrosion issue is remedied; hopefully, by a brand new hood this time.

As such, they kindly gave me a 2017 Fusion SE for the next week or two. It’s great on gas mileage, has a better audio system than the base unit in my mustang, and is incredibly soulless and mundane to drive. It is the ideal car for an NPC character.

We just traded for a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum. It too has the corrosion issue. The local Ford dealers (3 of them) all said the same thing: New hood and paint it. Covered under a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. Not sure why yours was just repaired last time?

Neither am I. My guess is because the previous spots were very small, they might’ve figured it was simpler to spot repair. And to their credit, it hasn’t shown back up in the spots they fixed.

How big is the trunk? My brother has a 2012 Fusion and it has a huge trunk with a strangely lumpy floor.

Does it have the frustrating Ford O Mati c Funnel?

Is the build quality better than sub par? I have been in a lot of Ford s and not one didn’t have catastrophic build quality issues.

I’m not sure I understand this one. What’s the Ford O Matic Funnel?

Build quality doesn’t seem subpar to me. Fit and finish looks and feels pretty alright to me. Perhaps I’ll find some more things to complain about by the end of the week.

The evil funnel of doom! Does it have the stupid capless fuel filler that made Ford reinvent an entirely ineffective funnel?

By build quality I mean even Fords a few years old have leaky sunroofs and janky electrical issues.is there anything like that? Fit and finish is usually okay but then things start failing prematurely.

The base stereo is surprisingly bad in my Mustang. Like - “W hy even put in a stereo at all if you’re you’re to put one in that’s so bad ? ” bad.

My wife, who is the 180 degree opposite of an audiophile, commented on how shitty the stereo was in the Stang. I agreed and opened up the electronic cutouts in the exhaust , floored it, and said “WHAT DID YOU SAY?” Ah, glorious V8 sounds. Too bad I can’t hear any rock and roll or NPR, but such is life....

The warranty fix for the corrosion should be a carbon fiber hood, since Ford can’t seem to paint metal.

OH!! Is that what that plastic funnel thing is for? I’ve been wondering about that for years! It has the capless fuel filler, as did my mustang and previous focus and I have no issues with it.

It’s only got a couple hundred miles right now. Tough to say what will fail, if anything.

The capless system works fine until you have to refill it with a gas can. The tiny plastic funnel they include has some trick way to get past the capless system where normal funnels won’t work (!!!!!!!) but they don’t make it big enough to pour into.

2 years of being a loaner and only a few hundred miles? Must have sat on the lot a long time.

I may have mentioned it before, but I’ve heard the root cause of Fords Aluminum corrosion issues is insufficient cleaning of the parts after stamping. The result being iron/steel residue left after stamping from the dies causing corrosion.

Never even thought about that. It’s certainly a first, considering it’s a now-discontinued car. I see so many in metro Detroit, you’d think they actually sell quite well.

I went base model because I preferred the performance goodies over the audio system at my budget . Because of this Fusion, I fully appreciate how crap the base system in our mustangs is. I believe there are aftermarket door speakers available, but yeah. Life certainly is like that sometimes.

who tf cares. Some people just need the car to get them from A to B smoothly, comfortably, and cheaply.

Fuck, if I wasnt given the lexus ( and seeing as it will likely last forever) Id probably be driving like a camry or something. I have my sportbikes for fun. I dont need my commuter to be hell raising (ignore the fact that I commute on my bikes...I do that because its actually cheaper then the car)

You’d think the sound system in a Town Car would be half decent, wouldn’t you? Nyet. I replaced the one in my TC with a Blaupunkt New Jersey and never looked back.
